Patriotism
TL;DR: I’m excited to share my intention to seek re-election! I’m proud of the work we have done and am looking forward to four more years of growth. Our public schools are the foundation of our democracy and now, more than ever, we need leaders with expertise and integrity working alongside our families and educators. Join me today in supporting every student and building a stronger, more inclusive community for all!
In recent weeks, witnessing various acts of patriotism has prompted me to reflect on my own experiences. As a child of immigrants, I often grappled with a sense of belonging; I was caught between the US and India. When I first ran for office four years ago, I proudly claimed my identity and featured the American flag in my campaign materials. Yet, I was told that such symbols didn’t fit someone with my identity. Naive to the world of politics, my journey in showing that the traditional way is not the only way began with an insistence that the US flag is a symbol of liberty and justice for all.
Public education is the bedrock of our republic. It is a place where every voice matters and the next generation learns what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves. Our schools are where the values that unite us as a community and a country are passed on, ensuring that the promise of opportunity is available to all; we are continuously educating thinkers and doers that care for their neighbors.
As your board member, I’ve worked to honor these ideals by:
Guiding our Rise: We navigated significant transitions, including three superintendents in three years, a new strategic plan, and two critical bargaining agreement renewals, thanks to the fortitude of our educators, staff, families, and community. Today, we are stronger and more prepared for even greater progress ahead.
Championing Representative and Effective Governance: By adapting to new challenges and bringing a wider range of perspectives into the decision-making process, we’re continuously enhancing the alignment of our goals and values with the evolving needs of our community. This is a hallmark of a healthy democracy.
Collaborating to Preserve Public Education: Participation in national thought leadership, facilitation of statewide synergy, rekindling and expansion of critical business and nonprofit alliances - all of it is centered on making sure we challenge and support every bear to move forward.
Together, we’ve shown that challenges only strengthen our resolve. Upper Arlington stands as one of only six schools in Ohio to consistently earn top honors from the state. And while rankings will never be a complete measure of success, they can be a testament to our shared commitment and source of civic pride.
As we look ahead, our work remains vital. There’s so much more we can accomplish together. With your support, we can continue building on the strong foundation we’ve established, ensuring our schools remain a beacon for our community and our democracy.
